The Google Reader Giant in an SEO World

I think that Martha Stuart, Donald Trump and the Pres of the US have something in common. (Actually, probably more than just one thing…since they are all pretty damn successful and are very very odd.) I am betting a million that they have a team of smart thinkers to keep them up to date on what’s happening with their respective industries (and/or countries).

OH!! Analysts, you say they are called!!? Ok….we can call them that.

They have a team of analysts to keep track of stocks, the newest crafty trends and super secret spy photos of where the Serbian president has recently been spotted (that last one might be either Martha OR Obamalama.) I am sure they meet everyday, and most likely a few times a day! These people are WELL informed.

Where am I going with all of this? No…I am not going to say “You need a TEAM!!” Surprise, surprise my little photographer comrades….because you already have one!! And it is called “My Super RSS Team!!” (Ok…we’re working on a catchier team name.)

Every morning when I wake up, I lay in my bed and read my version of the photographer’s newspaper. Google reader happens to be my fav….but I recently started using the app Flipboard, for my ipad, which pulls FB, Twitter and Google Reader all into a Newspaper-like interface. It’s pretty sweet.

One of the many topics “My Super RSS Team” keeps me up to date with is SEO.

I am not going to pretend that I am an SEO genius. Far from it actually. SEO needs change on such a regular basis, that I find myself not being able to keep up with it’s demands of me. (I CAN’T WORK UNDER THESE CONDITIONS!!! 0_0)

SO….what is a successful internet business to do?

Spend about 10 minutes every morning on it, that’s what. I’ve gotten in the habit this past year of waking up, and checking a few key blogs in my google reader. One of these blogs is SEOMOZ.org. They keep me up to date on what’s going on in the SEO world. They give me my morning brief on the SEO universe.

Recently, I read an article there that talked about what NOT to do with your SEO this year…and since I think EVERYONE should get off to an amazing start….I think I’ll link to their genius NOW.

32 SEO Tactics to Avoid in 2011

Part Time Nanny, Full Time Artist

Inspiration Post
Vivian Maier : Chicago, Illinois Street Photographer

They always say artists and poets don’t become truly famous until after they are dead. Depressing. But kinda true.

My sister sent me the video below earlier today on a recently discovered, now passed part time nanny…full time street photographer, Vivian Maier. Not a lot is known about her, since she was only discovered a year ago.

Her story is about 10 minutes long so I HIGHLY recommend watching it. I don’t think I have been so inspired to carry around my camera (and get my Rolleiflex working) as I was after this.

Be sure to view more images and check out the progress of the project HERE.

Till soon my little street photographers,

Terra Dawn

Show us the inspiration we need to carry us through our next event.

We are always looking for Bridal Portraits, Groom Portraits, Trash the Dress Sessions, Bridal Party Portraits, E-Sessions…you name it!

*As of right now, we are only accepting wedding industry images…but keep an eye out, as that may change soon!*

Here’s a little surprise.  WE GET CARPAL TUNNEL!!  (And we don’t know everything…).  We are ALWAYS on the lookout for great how-to articles, features on cool new toys and products you find in the industry, and articles written on uplifting happy awesome things! (All photography related, of course….but if you want to throw in a little unicorns and glitter, please don’t hesitate.)

Also keep in mind when writing, that we want to keep it fun here!  If your article is a little dry…spice it up with some crazy! If your article is a little sharp in tone or soap-boxy….tone it down a bit.  We love taking a stand, but we get all sorts of readers and don’t want to go too democrat or republican (or canon or nikon…).

All articles must:

1….Be AT LEAST 350 words in length (gotta get the SEO in check).

2….Include AT LEAST 5 links to outside websites.  (This could include your own, other vendors, linked articles or linked photographers…)

4….be proofread!  I will, obviously, do a read-through of the article before posting it…but I am NOT  a proofreader! I may correct one or two mistakes that get by even the most strict grammar nuts, but I am not one for spending hours on sentance structure and spelling.  So do your best to make the article as well written and professional as possible!!

By submitting to Poetic Edits Blog you agree that ANY work submitted, whether written or visual, is claimed to be legally yours and under no violation of a previous contract or agreement with client or publication.

Meeting in the Aisle: Savannah and Steve

The goal of this blog is not just to post beautiful photos.  The aim of the blog is to bring photographers something new and fun with every post.  Photographers need to take something new out of every photo session shown and every article published.

Today will NOT disappoint.

White Rabbit Studios is an amazing photog-team out of Huntsville, Alabama who has kicked major bum in innovation.

Firstly…I want their name.  SO freakin’ adorable! And check out their branding….

It’s everything a brand SHOULD be. Simple, personable, memorable….brilliant.  (Not that I’m partial to that particular color of blue or anything…0_0.)

Everything on this website is eye-candy! Their galleries “Blush” and “Film” are presented in a super fun way that’s ALREADY made me start to think about how to redesign my blog and portfolio presentation.  (Not to mention busting out my old Diana….).

Secondly…Ashely and her hubbie own a record store!!!  No really!!  And it…also…looks super freakin’ awesome!  So THAT, my consortium of camera carrying comrades, brings us to their actual feature!!  A recent post of theirs was the e-session of Steve and Savannah.  Scrolling through the pics I was thrilled with the artistic elements prevalent in each set of images.

In Ashley’s words:

“Steve and Savannah are super sweet (alliteration wha whaaaaa?!)!
Anyway, the idea behind the shoot, as with most of our sessions, is just highlighting the couple in their environment. We love bringing out the couple’s personalities! When Steve and I first met we talked about Radiohead for the majority of the conversation. He’s loves music, so we thought it fitting to shoot in the record store that my husband and I (Ashley) own,
Vertical House Records. They both enjoy being outdoors, so we found a lovely spot to frolic and have fun. We loved the fact they wanted to incorporate their dog, and squealed over how dapper he looked in his little bow-tie! The cranes were just lucky timing on our part – they were part of an art exhibit happening where our studio is located, in Lowe Mill.:)

*You KNOW a girl who mentions Radiohead, alliteration, and frolicking in one paragraph is a girl after my own heart.*

So, I was drooling and scrolling and pretty much meditating on the beauty when I got…….

to this.

This may be one of those simple….brilliant ideas that that could change the industry.  Seriously! It MIGHT just be the Tickle-Me-Elmo of wedding photography blogs!

.Gifs have been a around since the beginning of digital image editing. The last time I did a .gif was a Calvin and Hobbs avatar for a deviant art forum like….5 years ago!!  0_0

Yeah…go ahead.  Judge.

I’ve NEVER thought to do a simple movie for my clients!!!

I AM IN LOVE WITH THESE GALS AND THEIR BRAINS!!  (And that was totally NOT in a zombie kind of way.)

SOOOOoooo…..to wrap up my lengthy gushing, head to their site, poke around and get inspired!

THERE ARE LINKS I HAVEN’T EVEN CLICKED YET!!  (Oooo….good catch phrase!!)

Till soon,

Terra Dawn
